The Local Employment Service, previous request for appointment, gives advice both to individuals looking for employment, and to those people willing to start a business and become self-employees.

Municipal Plan for Employment 2008-2011: a proposal launched by the Department for Economic Development, Employment and Citizens Participation, to promote employment, decentralizing the Local Employment Service in order to bring it closer to every neighbourhood, and to facilitate employment of quality to the whole population.

The MPE 2008-2011 includes the following programs:

• Employment-Quality Program: Gives information and advice about subsidies and incentives granted to companies offering permanent positions, promotes working quality conditions, and gives information on the guidelines to Business Social Responsibility.
• Vigo-Emprende: Includes a new innovative scheme to promote self-employment as well as information on how to carry out the procedures to start-up business and to reinforce companies in the Vigo area..
• Career Planning and Placement Program (UTIL): Focuses on those young people with limited education, little working experience and low income, to give them the opportunity of training and facilitate their entering the work market.
• Women's Employment Program: Seeks to help women to take on a work position in the growing industrial sector of Vigo, rather than in other traditional women's jobs.
• Employment Program: addressed to long term unemployed people and those aged over 45 with no working experience. It includes mixed programs on training and business ventures, working habits acquisition and incorporation into labour.
• Vigo Natural Environment Program: Provides the required training in terms of enviromental concerns, to facilitate the access to the wok market to private sector workers; it also aims to improve the profesional qualification of communal forestland workers.
