The Fundación Laxeiro holds a permanent exhibition of the work of the popular Galician artist José Otero Abeledo, more widely known as Laxeiro (Lalín 1908 – Vigo 1996). It was set up in 1999 to promote the artist’s work and research. The collection is made up of 62 works owned by Vigo City Council and are kept on loan at the Foundation.

Laxeiro is considered the artist that best represents the movement known as the "Renovadores" (Renewal Movement) of the Galician vanguard. The artists of this movement represented renewal in art, overcoming the trend of regionalism current at the time and leading Galician artistic identity towards that of European trends.

As well as the permanent collection, the Laxeiro Foundation also organizes temporary exhibitions of private and public collections of the artist. It gives works on loan for anthological exhibitions and makes information available about exhibitions organized outside Vigo, catalogues the artist’s word and organizes all types of artistic activities particularly in the area of contemporary artistic trends. It specializes in young Galician artists.
