Art & Culture
The whole church is built in stonemasonry and on the façade there is a fine tower.
The church is spacious on the inside and seats 500 and its most interesting feature is the altar.
On the altar there is a mosaic by Santiago Padrós y Elias. It depicts the main mysteries of the Cova de Iria. In the middle there is an image of the Virgin on a holm oak tree as she had appeared in 1917. To one side there is an angel who appeared three times a year previously to the three shepherds (Lucía, Jacinta and Francisco) to prepare them for their encounter with Our Lady. On the other side, at the bottom, people are watching and at the top there is an image of the dance of the sun. This occurred on 13 October 1917 and was watched by around one hundred thousand people, many of whom several kilometres away.
