Town defences of Vigo

Vigo’s town wall was part of the town’s defences that included San Sebastián Castle and O Castro fort. It enclosed an area from the S. Sebastián fort to the A Laxe cape and O Berbés.

The town wall was built to defend against maritime attacks which were devastating the coast. It was finally completed around 1656, during the war with Portugal and a short time after the attack by the corsair John Culpepper.

The town wall was nearly completely demolished at the end of the 19th century. Today you can follow its trajectory immersing yourself in the history surrounding it.
