In recent years, the City Council has developed several programs to preserve the local environment. The Environment Advisory Group was created in 2000 as a consultative body made up of expert representatives committed to preserve natural resources, with right to voice and vote in the assembly debates.

The City Council of Vigo has been a pioneer in developing a noise map of the city. The management of natural resources encompasses areas as diverse as the listing of species (animals and plants), information about the natural resources, effective environmental education, itinerary proposals, and habitat preservation.

Noise Map: The purpose of this summary report is to provide an overall perspective on the results derived from the implementation of the Strategic Noise Mapping, regarding the main noise sources: major roads and traffic flow, railways and industrial sites.

Vigo Camino a Camino: This program, launched by the Department of Environment, Health and Consumers affairs, in partnership with the Regional Health Ministry- Directorate General for Health is aimed to make people aware of Vigo natural surroundings by using diverse walking and hiking routes.
