Functions

According to Article 53 of the Organic Law 2 / 1986, March 13th, on Security Forces and Corps, the Local Police officers must perform the following duties:

  • To provide security services for the Local Authority staff as well as to keep under surveillance and control the Head Offices and other buildings.
  • Organizing, marking and directing road traffic in the urban area, according to The Highway Code.
  • To draw up reports about road accidents in urban areas.
  • To undertake administrative policing to ensure compliance with ordinances, bylaws and other provisions within its field of competence.
  • To ensure effective cooperation with the Judicial Police, as provided in Article 29.2 of the Organic Law 2 / 86.
  • To provide assistance in cases of accidents, catastrophes or public emergency, cooperating in implementing the Civil Protection strategic plan, according to law.
  • To take precautionary measures and any other action intended to avoid the commission of criminal acts, within the framework of cooperation policies as established by the Security Boards.
  • To patrol public areas and fully cooperate with the National Security Forces and the Autonomous Police to supervise and keep the peace at mass demonstrations, strikes and riots, when required to do so.
  • To cooperate in resolving interpersonal conflicts when required to do so.

Specific Services:

  • EVAP (Equipo de Vigilancia y Apoyo Policial):

    As a special branch of the City Police of Vigo, the Security Patrol and Police Support Unit (EVAP), was created in order to provide integrated assistance and protection to women victims of domestic violence, as well as as to mitigate as far as possible the disabling effects of such mistreatment. This team is composed of qualified officers with experience and expertise in the management of gender and domestic violence, specifically trained to develop risk evaluation criteria.

  • Beach Patrol & Seafront Wardens Service:

    These teams patrol public areas and beach sites to help identify any problem and to provide the best quality service to residents and visitors.
